Patient Info

Understanding your condition and how it will be treated is an important part of being able to cope with what will undoubtedly be a stressful period. You need to have as much information about your problem and proposed surgery as you need. This will help you help yourself. It will also help friends and family understand what to expect.

Importantly it will help you understand that medicine has its limitations. Modern surgery is very safe, but operations can and do go wrong. Having a realistic expectation of what is possible is essential.

I have used written information sheets for many years. Many of these documents have been enhanced by including advice and feed back from previous patients. These information sheets are regularly updated as new developments occur. You are encouraged to read these before your surgery. You can give them to family and friends. If you have any questions you should make a further appointment. You should write them down and you are encouraged to bring a friend or family member to the consultation.

These advice sheets are not the only information that is available. There is a wealth of information on the internet. Much of this is of variable quality. Included on this website are links to some organisations that have a reputation of providing detailed, comprehensive and up to date information.
