Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital is the premier teaching hospital in Western Australia situated in the Perth suburb of Nedlands, Western Australia. It provides a comprehensive service to the population of Perth and is a major tertiary referral hospital for the whole of Western Australia.

Under the Western Australian Heath Reform plan Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital will undergo a major upgrading to be completed by 2012. It will become home to the Western Australian Cancer Centre.

Although Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital is a public hospital it is able to admit private patients. This may be the best location for emergency private patients, or those require soficticated support services.

It is accredited with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

Hollywood Private Hospital

Hollywood Private Hospital is owned and operated by Ramsay Health Care, Australia’s largest private hospital operator. Hollywood Private Hospital is a multi-award winning, acute care private teaching hospital situated in the Perth suburb of Nedlands, Western Australia. Hollywood Private Hospital provides comprehensive care for privately insured patients, entitled veterans and war widow/ers and self-insured patients.

There is on-site radiology (SKG) with a state of the art 64 slice CT scanner, MRI, nuclear medicine and 24 hour laboratory support. There is an Intensive Care and Acute Coronary Care Unit that supports interventional cardiology.

Hollywood Private Hospital is currently undergoing a $128 million upgrade to greatly expand the services it can offer. This will make Hollywood Private Hospital one of the best equipped private hospitals in Australia. Hollywood Private Hospital is situated along side Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital which is also undergoing a major upgrade (see above). These two hospitals will provide an unrivaled health campus in the centre of Perth.

Hollywood Private Hospital is recognised as a centre for excellence in surgery, medicine, psychiatric care, rehabilitation and palliative care. It is accredited with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

Joondalup Health Campus

Joondalup Health Campus is the largest health care facility in Perth’s northern suburbs. It is owned and operated by Ramsay Health Care, Australia’s largest private hospital operator.

Joondalup Health Campus provides 24-hour acute care from an integrated public and private campus. The hospital has Perth’s second busiest Emergency Department and has all the support services required to provide acute care. This includes Intensive Care and Acute Coronary Care Units and a comprehensive 24 hour radiology department (Perth Radiology). Other specialties on the campus include Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Renal and Oncology. It is accredited with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

Joondalup Health Campus is already a teaching hospital for many specialties. Junior staff of all grades supports these services. By 2011 Joondalup Health Campus will have substantially expanded to become a major teaching hospital. It is likely this expansion will be accompanied by a separate private hospital along side the public campus.
